Arm reduction surgery can remove excess fat, lift the skin, and tighten the arms, resulting in smaller circumference of the upper arms. Depending on the amount of extra skin and how loose the supporting tissues have become, extra skin is removed from incisions down the inside of the arm or within the armpit.
If the skin has good elasticity, patients who want smaller arms may consider having liposuction of the arms. Unlike brachioplasty, scars are very small. However, evaluation of the patient is very important because liposuction can result in unsightly, loose skin if the patient’s skin is not elastic enough to contract accordingly.
